It's Paranormal Week here at TBQ's Book Palace as part of my 4 year blogoversary celebration!
This post kicks off the rest of the week's events. Plus, did I mention there's a giveaway involved? :) Read on!
Oh, and for all my international readers--check out this post for your chance to win during my blogoversary. :)
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Let's be honest--not long after books like Twilight became popular, paranormal books started to flood the market. Vampire books were coming out right and left. And some, well, you could tell where they got the inspiration from...
But if you are under the misunderstanding that all paranormal romances are the same, you simply haven't been looking very hard.
This genre is more than just vampires and declarations of "you're-the-only-one-for-me". There are literally dozens of different sub-genres, from vampires (and not just the ones that sparkle!) to various shifters, demons to demi-gods. Paranormal romances--they aren't your momma's romance novels!
There is something for everyone. Do you like reading books about Ancient Atlantis? Great, there's a series or two for that. Are you interested in stories that pull from Greek mythology? There are books for that, too!
And I'm sure if you want to find a romance book about Sasquatch, it's out there somewhere... Personally, I wouldn't pick it up, but hey, to each her own! :)
Believe me, just when you think you're starting to get a bit tired of this genre, a new story comes along that shows us, once again, that there is more to paranormal books than meets the eye.
I've been reading paranormals for, wow, probably 8 years (?), at least. And, yes, I do read other genres too, but I've never truly got sick of this one. I can always find a new author, a new series, an interesting new spin. There is nothing better than finding a new hit--unless it's revisiting an old favorite. BDB, anyone? Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian, Larissa Ione..I could go on and on, listing all my favorite paranormal authors. But I'm guessing that even if you aren't a fan of the genre, you've no doubt heard most of those names once or twice.
But if you haven't tried any of them, I highly suggest you do so! :)
This week is all about paranormal books--and for me, that also includes Urban Fantasy and Fantasy novels. I may not read as many books that fall under those categories, but they are ones that I am drawn to as well. :)
I've read a ton of paranormal books since I started this blog, and there are very few that I've not liked. Which means there are dozens that I've loved. So how can I possibly choose a favorite? It's not possible!
I could always take the easy way out and say, "Duh, Black Dagger Brotherhood!" And don't get me wrong--I LOVE her books, each and every one of them. But her books have become so popular--and I want to help out some of the slightly lesser known books out there. ;)
Hmm...
I'm going to cheat again and go with (one of) my favorite series. What? I can't narrow it down beyond that!
Shifter books by Christina Dodd? Yes, please!
I love Dodd's books, and her paranormals are simply awesome. I am anxiously awaiting the last book in her other paranormal series, The Chosen Ones (see my L4C this Sunday to find out more...) where the bad boy finally gets redeemed!

My RAK Wish List

Paranormal romance is my favorite genre. I think reading about vamps, shifters, dragons, angels, and demons is so fascinating and the added love story makes it even better. I love how the heroes and heroines can definitely kick some butt.
ReplyDeleteIf there isn't any butt kicking in the book, it's (usually) not a very good paranormal. Right? :)
DeleteEnjoy!
TBQ
I have read some paranormal romances actually those are a lot of fun to read. I do like vampires and werewolves, because they just tend to be sexy.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! :) It's hard to beat a sexy shifter or other para-hero.
DeleteEnjoy!

just like Kayla said in her interview, I love that I can read about creatures that don't really exist but are really fascinating
ReplyDeleteI think that sums it up perfectly! :)
DeleteEnjoy!

I do love paranormals. I love that each one is different, the author can create the world and characters in their minds, only limited by their imaginations. Anything goes, nothing is impossible. I also love the variety of characters: vampires, shifters, demons, angels, fae, witches, etc.

I totally agree--really, this genre has so much to offer us!

Paranormal Romance is my favorite genre to read. I'm addicted to vampires and werewolves and all of the other wonderful creatures out there to read about.
ReplyDeleteI also gotta say that the Darkness Chosen series is a fantastic series! I've read all but the last one... I really need to read that one. :)

I have recently began to read paranormals and love them. I love shapeshifters and vampires the best right now. But I have several to read. I love how anything can and does happen.
ReplyDeleteMel
You can never go wrong with shifters and vamps! :)
DeleteEnjoy!
TBQ
I do love paranormal romance! Especially shifters and vampires...I love their strong sexy dominant alpha characteristics, the sense of danger and excitement/unpredictability they naturally generate and the tender, loving side that only their lover/family sees. Thx for the VERY generous giveaway op! :)
ReplyDeleteParanormal romance is my favorite. I love being able to read and escape to a place where I LONG to be but know it doesn't exist. In the 20 minutes or the 3 hours that I spend reading I'm able to get away from reality and relax and not stress. It's like my prozac, if you will. :P
ReplyDeleteI Absolutely Love Paranormal Romance It Has Great Love Story's And Action In Them The Fights And The Love Then More Fights To Save The Love Is So Awesome. butterfli262002@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI love paranormal books. There my favorite. I love how everything is...outside the box. The imagination knows no bounds. I get creatures/beings that i love, things ive never heard of, powers, different realms, mixed breeds, my personal favorite: shifters!! Every book that i pick up is unique and different. I just love them!
ReplyDeleteIts the fantasy of them. The sense that while something is similar the unbelievable do exist and can take place.
ReplyDeleteBooks are my fantasy world. My escape. Who wouldn't want a hot Vamp or Were or even Fae (Puck) LOL it's an escape I love paranormal romances!
ReplyDeleteTHanks for the giveaway <3
Happy Blogoversary! I really enjoy paranormal romance because anything can happen. The truth of reading for escapism pleasure is so real and you never have to worry about your own life not being as "romantic" or "perfect" as it turns out in books because these are a completely different world and that leaves you with smiles rather than discontent. I do not know if what I just said sounds too much like discontent or is just depressing LOL but my point it in a paranormal romance anything can happen and there are no limits to what is believed :)
