[Kame's Review]: "Blue Lines"

Blue Lines by Toni Aleo
Publisher: Loveswept (November 14, 2013)
Series: Assassins, 4
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Opposites do more than just attract in Toni Aleo’s latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can’t resist.

The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him—wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lies behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she’s lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.

Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he’s been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it’s not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn’t take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it’s supposed to be all for show, the second they say “I do,” the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.

Kame's Review:

Piper might have loved Erik since the first time she saw him. He is family, her sister's brother-in-law, but she still can't deny the attraction they have for each other. They meet up in a bar and can't deny the pull. Neither expect it will be a night that changes their lives.

Piper has a great heart and I really enjoyed her character. She has many interests and never seems to stay at one project long. She loves with every cell in her body. Erik would never make it on my list of favorite heroes. Yes he had a hard life, most heroes use their bad history to shape their lives, Erik seems to use it as an excuse to hide from life, and to not allow himself to be happy. His inability to believe he deserved happiness was a constant theme, one that wore on me. I actually did not like Erik until chapter 25.

This is a few books into a series and many previous characters make appearances. I was happy to see Aubrey and Tate - two of my favorites. A few characters who I enjoyed in their books grated on my nerves in this book.  The plot of this book was not unique and at times I thought the drama in Erik and Piper's life was too drawn out for my taste. A few new characters were introduced but I have no clue on future couples in the series, and no real cliffhangers for the next book in the series.

Fans of this series will continue reading and will be happy with Piper and Erik's HEA. I know this was a hard book for the author to write, I appreciate her love of hockey and her love for these characters. I would read the next book in the series to check up on Piper and Aubrey.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.

Thanks for the review, Kame! :)

Who doesn't love a sexy sports star -- do you have a favorite? Hockey, like this series? Perhaps baseball or football are more your thing?

Enjoy!
