[Kame's Review]: "Wild on You"

Wild on You by Tina Wainscott
Publisher: Loveswept (February 4, 2014)
Series: Justiss Alliance, 1
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Introducing the Justiss Alliance, an elite team of heroes out to do right. In Wild on You, one untamable SEAL meets a woman who handles the wildest sort of animals—until she herself becomes the hunted.

When Rick Yarbrough, aka Risk, a discharged SEAL with a taste for danger, joins the Justiss Alliance, his first assignment seems like a baby-sitting gig: He must guard an out-of-control general’s daughter. Then he meets his charge.

Addie Wunder is no baby. She’s a dedicated animal-rights activist who isn’t above breaking the law if innocent creatures are threatened. But her work has made her a lot of powerful enemies. If she doesn’t stop, she may just turn herself into an endangered species.

Risk’s mission is to keep Addie out of trouble. But as they grow closer, Addie becomes so much more than a job. And the more he has to lose, the more Risk is willing to put his own life on the line—for her cause, her safety, and her sweet-hot embrace.

Kame's Review:

Risk is new on the job at Justiss Alliance. His first assignment is to be the bodyguard for a retired general’s animal activist daughter.  How hard could that be?  He was a SEAL just a few months ago. Risk finds out that protecting a stubborn woman is far more complicated than he imagined, especially when his first look at her wakes up parts of his soul and heart; something he never thought possible.

In the prequel novella to this series we got a glimpse at each of the members of the SEAL team and Risk was one of the ones that I just couldn’t figure out if I liked.  Ms. Wainscott made him shine in this own book; I really got a feeling of who Risk was and he is so much more than a SEAL. Now that he is no longer a SEAL he is starting to think about things he never thought he would have; love and a family. He is sexy and has a great sense of humor.  Risk is also extremely hard on himself; and I found Chase as a great equalizer of those feelings.

Addie has her own baggage that she has been dragging around since her mother’s death. She is so focused on helping as many animals as possible that she tells her father she is gay so that he will stop trying to set her up.  I do agree that she is a little extreme in her methods, but under it all you can tell she really cares about the animals. She comes to an understanding on her motivation by the end of the book and I believe if we see or hear of her adventures in future books they will be calmer.

“A car barreled at you, no light. You think that happens all the time?” He brushed the edge of the bruise on her arm. “This from the near-miss?”

“Near-hit. They nearly hit me and did miss me. I never understood why it’s called a near-miss when it was a miss.”

“You almost get hit by a car and you’re hung up on language?”

I adored the interaction between Risk and Addie. Lots of their dialog made me chuckle.  Honestly it was the best part of the book. Why this book is not a 5 star for me was the part of the plot.  The plot of an animal activist being a target was unique for me. However I found Risk’s few “issues” with protecting Addie rather mind boggling.  I just couldn’t fathom a former Navy SEAL, and one that was less than 6 months out to miss the signs he had; and to “lose” his client as many times as he did.  The major incident at the end was rather flat for me and resolved too easily.  However the sizzling interaction between Addie and Risk made up for these issues. They had instant chemistry from the first meeting. That coupled with their great dialog, and unique plot made for a great book.

I will definitely be reading more books in this series.

  4 1/2 STARS!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
