The holiday novella, Book 1.5, following the award-winning debut of Forged in Dreams and Magick in the Highland Legends Series:

Desperate to honor a life-long promise, Susanna MacEalan escapes her abusive clan with the fierce determination of never falling under the power of a man. Ever.

Aggravated by shallow-hearted pursuing lasses, Robert Brodie, commander of his clan’s elite guard, has foresworn scheming women. Forever.

When magick transforms Brodie Castle into a Christmas wonderland, the two despondent souls find solace in a most unexpected place . . . each other’s arms.

Amid a whirlwind of escalating events, Susanna’s traumatic past threatens Robert’s ability to protect the one woman meant for him. In a harrowing moment, as her fears and demons coalesce, will hope, faith, and love be enough to save them?

Pat's Review:

If you are looking for a Christmas story, with Highlanders, magic and a lass in distress, and of course a Dark Angel,  I would recommend this delightful novella.

Robert Brodie, Commander of the Elite Guard and a couple of his men are tasked with an order from the Lairds wife Isobel. They are to go into the forest and cut down a tree, with a red ribbon encircling it, and bring it back to the castle for a celebration Lady Isobel is declaring as Christmas. Lady Isobel has traveled to their land from a different place and time, but she loves Laird Iain, and is carrying his child so her requests are quickly granted. Robert and his men have found the tree and are working to fell it, when they hear a horse approaching on a dead run. Robert turns to face the approaching intruder, and when the horse sees him, rears and unseats his rider.  Robert is shocked to see "a wee lass" fighting against his weapon and control.  She is feisty, disrespectful and terrified, and wants to be on her way. Robert will have none of it......he will keep this hellion, and bring her back to the castle with him, until he can figure out what to do with her.  Susanna MacEalen, is this woman and nothing and no one will stop her escape from her father and his cruel clansmen.  She has been taught well by her mother, all men are heartless, selfish and must have their way. She will not be their victim, as her mother was.

This is a very simple Christmas and sweet love story.  Of course it has it's dark moments with evil men trying to capture the beautiful heroine, but the hero saves her and captures her heart.  I have not read the first novel in this series, Forged in Dreams and Magick, and I think it would be helpful to do that. There is definitely Magick in Brodie Castle, but not fully explained in this story. I finished this novella in one sitting, hoping for more of this beautiful Castle, it's clansmen and it's Magick.  Will definitely be reading book one in the series.

Thanks for the review, Pat! :) I'm so glad to hear you loved this one; I have high hopes then that you will love FiDaM with a passion! :D I liked this one myself, but not as much as the debut. Still, I'm a fan of this author for life -- sexy Highlanders. Need I say more?

Have you picked up this series yet? No? What are you waiting for?

What is your favorite holiday novella? Was it PNR? Historical? Contemporary?

Enjoy!
