[ARC Review]: "I'll Be Home for Christmas"

I'll Be Home for Christmas by Jessica Scott
Publisher: Forever Yours (November 5, 2013)
Series: Coming Home, 2.6 (novella)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

There's nothing in the world Army Sergeant Vic Carponti loves more than his wife and his country. Smart-mouthed and easy tempered, he takes everything as a joke . . . except his promise to come home to his wife, Nicole, for Christmas. As he prepares to leave for his latest deployment into Iraq, Vic will do everything he can to shield his beautiful, supportive wife from the realities of war . . . and from his own darkest fears.

As a career army wife, Nicole Carponti knows just what to expect from her husband's tour of duty: loneliness, relentless worry, and a seemingly endless countdown until the moment Vic walks through the door again. But when the unthinkable happens, Nicole and Vic's bond is tested like never before and changes everything they believe to be true about the power of love and the simple beauty of being home for the holidays.

My Review:

Jessica Scott has managed once again to rip out my heart. She caused me to pull a “There's something in my eye” moment many a times while reading this novella. But she also made me laugh and smirk. I'll Be Home for Christmas is a heart-warming holiday romance that will drag you through every emotion before reaching the last page.

Ms. Scott is very talented at what she writes. I've inhaled every one of her books so far, and adored each and every one, I'll Be Home for Christmas being no exception. I was beyond thrilled when I heard that Carponti was finally getting his story told. I've been in love with him from book 1, intrigued by the glimpses of his character, and especially drawn to this tricks and jokes. I was not disappointed by this book at all. Scott did an amazing job, yet again, of writing a romance that is very real and emotional, and incorporating the military lifestyle into the story. She knows what she's writing about, and it comes through in her books.

I'll Be Home for Christmas is a quick read, yes, but the story is still well developed, and the emotional roller coaster Vic and Nicole (as well as many of the secondary characters) go through is very powerful. Prepare yourself—mark off a few hours of your time to enjoy this book, and bring a few tissues, just in case you find that you, too, have something caught in your eye. A rare combination of sweet, sexy, funny, emotional and yet dealing with a very serious, and real, situation, I'll Be Home for Christmas is a must read for any fan of this genre!
