[Kame's Review]: "Winters Heat"

Winters Heat by Cristin Harber
Publisher: Mill Creek Press (September 21, 2013)
Series: Titan, 1
Genre: Romantic Suspense

A WOMAN ON A MISSION
After putting her life on the line to protect classified intelligence, military psychologist Mia Kensington is on a cross-country road trip from hell with an intrusive save-the-day hero. Uninterested in his white knight act, she’d rather take her chances without the ruggedly handsome, cold-blooded operative who boasts an alpha complex and too many guns.

AND THE MAN SENT TO STOP HER
Colby Winters, an elite member of The Titan Group, has a single objective on his black ops mission: recover a document important to national security. It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out operation. But now, by any means necessary becomes a survival mantra when he faces off with a stunning woman he can’t leave behind.

MUST PARTNER TO SURVIVE
When Titan’s safe houses are compromised, Colby stashes Mia at his home, exposing his secret—he’s the adoptive father of an orphaned baby girl. Too soon, danger arrives and Mia lands in the hands of a sadistic cartel king with a taste for torture. As hours bleed into fear-drenched days, Colby races across the globe and through a firestorm of bullets to save the woman he can’t live without.

Kame's Review:

“I work for a tactical operations firm named Titan Group. We’re just a bunch of ex-military and former agents dickin’ around taking on the world”

Colby Winters is just doing his job, all he has to do is retrieve a hidden package and his day is done. Of course it can’t be that easy. Not only is he racing to beat the two guys who have been tailing him, but when he gets to the location to retrieve a package, there is a woman crawling on the floor grabbing the package from its hidden location. Mia Kensington, is on a mission to retrieve a package that held information that got one of her patients killed. She thought she would meet the same fate that day but Winters saves her life.

“Winters laughed again, a smile staying on his cheeks. This is my kind of woman. No bullshit and plenty of sass. She impressed him, and it wasn’t the first or second time she’d pulled that card.”

There are two sides of Colby Winter. He can be focused when on the job and soft and gentle when he is at home.  Mia is a spitfire - probably the only one who could ever fit into Winters’ life. She is a character that is easy to love. I especially enjoyed how she interacted with the secondary characters. I wish there was more time devoted to the back story on Mia and Colby. I still have a bunch of questions - not that I would put them here as they would be "spoilers". Their attraction was believable and intense. The mission they take on is intense too. Many books in this genre would have a quick one chapter of the intense climax of the mission, but in this book it goes on for chapters. And after that emotional end of the mission Colby and Mia are at a crucial point in their relationship, one that at times had me wanting to just scream.

Wow a fantastic new series and want to know the best part Cristin Harber release the first five parts of this series all at once! It is a great first book for a series as we meet most of the team members quickly. They all have great personalities, and I am looking forward to the rest of this series. I have immediately moved on to the second book!  Put this series on your TBR pile or just go out and buy it now.

     4 STARS!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
