[Kame's Review]: "Reckless"

Reckless by Skye Jordan
Publisher: Cygnet Books (August 23, 2013)
Series: Renegades, 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance

A couture wedding dress designer to the rich and famous, Lexi LaCroix’s image means everything. But crossing paths with a sexier-than-sin, bad-boy biker makes Lexi realize how much living she’s sacrificed for her success and one touch is all it takes to threaten her carefully choreographed life. When that touch fills far more than just Lexi’s physical needs, she finds herself torn between the career she needs and the bad-boy she craves.

Jax Chamberlin gave up the superficial life of acting for the thrill of running his own stunt company years ago. But a recent betrayal proves he’s still too close to the limelight to find a woman who doesn’t plan to use him as a stepping-stone to success. When the charming and mysterious Lexi offers him a totally anonymous hook-up during an out of town trip, Jax accepts. Only Lexi is more sextacular than charming, and Jax wants more.

But Lexi’s got a major hang-up over his renegade lifestyle, and Jax isn’t willing to change his ways. Especially not when he discovers who she really is. Because if she finds out his connections could catapult her to the top of her career, he’s afraid the fantasy woman he’s falling for might just end up like all the other gold-diggers. And this time, it’s not just his bad-boy reputation at risk, but his heart, too.

Kame's Review:

Lexi LaCroix has a dream.  She is about to fly the red-eye from LA to NYC to discuss a potential partnership with one of the country’s leading bridal designers. This could be what Lexi’s business needs to bring it to the next level. She knows image is everything, and she must guard hers with everything she has for any hope in getting this partnership.  Jax Chamberlin travels all over the country perform stunts for movies to try to keep his business afloat.  A bad choice in a former girlfriend has cost him a major contract, so after a sixteen hour work day he must fly from LA to NYC to work on another movie. Their eyes meet at the drop off point at the airport, but the only ones talking are their friends.  Lexi is attracted to the bad boy, but do biker jackets and wedding gowns mix?

“Looks like someone’s zeroed in on you,” Rubi said quietly beside her. “Get your ass out of this car, girl. He’s hotter than nuclear fusion. What’s wrong with you?”

“I…can’t breathe,” she said without breaking eye contact with Biker Boy.

I love how Lexi and Jax meet and start their relationship. I am purposely being vague as I don’t want to spoil it, but there is a long scene at the airport and on the plane that made me smile. I feel that scene spoke so much to the core of the characters. It showed how they both needed to make changes in their life but in small comfortable steps. Their intimate scenes are HOT (they match the cover of the book!) But this is more than a steamy book, Lexi and Jax want a relationship so bad, but each has firm rules for their lives that seem to contradict each other.  My heart was aching for this couple wishing their path to love could be smoother, but in the end it made their HEA more special.

“Tell me what I can do to make this work, baby.”

She laughed. “I’m the last person to be giving advice on relationships, as evidenced by the lousy way I’ve handled this one from the start.”

“I’m no gem either.” Pulling back, he took her face in both hands and met her gaze seriously.

“But I’ve been through enough relationships to know when I’ve found someone I want to keep. And I want to keep you.”

All of the secondary characters in Reckless are written with great detail and personality. This is the first book in Skye Jordan’s Renegade’s series, and I can’t wait to read the other books.  Rubi and Wes are next. There were sparks flying between them at the airport when they were dropping off Lexi and Jax!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
