Against all odds, Piper Anderson has managed to pick up the pieces of her life. She's holding tight to her budding romance with Officer Bobby Wright, anxious to have her moment with him. That is until reports of a brutal attack at the local college campus turn her dream of happily ever after into a nightmare. The unmistakably familiar details of the attack are an instant reminder of the chains tying her to people and places she so badly wants to escape.

With her life and friends in danger, Piper must confront her past in order to fight for her future. To make matters worse, Piper and Bobby once again find their moral compasses pointing them in opposite directions. But what Piper doesn't know is that Bobby has secrets of his own. How can their love survive when their pasts have shaped them so differently? Piper's choices could bring her the freedom she yearns for, but will cutting ties with the past sever her relationship with Bobby?

Musing Maddie's Review:

Congratulations Danielle Stewart on another brilliant release in Cutting Ties. Suspense, romance, humor!

Cutting Ties is the second book to Chasing Justice, Stewart's thrilling debut novel. It continues the story of Bobby and Piper, returning to Edenville, and their journey toward peace, justice and love. Piper and Bobby know they love each other, but can they thrive when their different experiences from their pasts, which have shaped their view of justice in particular, survive when confronted with the disastrous visit from Piper's former life?

Piper and Bobby were fundamentally very different. This wasn't glossed over, but explored perfectly. Their love for each other was realistic, convincing and heartfelt.
Bobby of Piper:

“I love you in a way that petrifies me. I love you so much that I cut out the best parts of me to make room for you, and now I don't recognise myself”

Bobby's sense of duty was admirable. His finesse, or lack there of, not so much.

Piper on betrayal from someone you love –

“Then a boat came along, warm, welcoming and safe. But all of a sudden her boat was capsized by betrayal. The water is much colder, the darkness and loneliness more intense, the pain more acute."

It was this sort of depth, thought and poetic writing, which impressed me.

Once again, supporting characters leant strength, believability and (appropriately placed and funny!) humor to the tale. Written in third person, present tense worked well.  This author writes with what feels like, years of experience. Betty-isms frequently provided perfect moments of levity. The whole gamut of emotions were covered: joy, love, fear, lust, anger, sadness. Cleverly done.

The conclusion was more than fabulous. It was devastating, yet it was apt. It wasn't a cliffhanger, but an ending that will possibly surprised you none-the-less.

Epilogues - being the greedy reader I am, I love Epilogues! In this one, there was the added bonus of being familiarized with Christian. Watch out girls: this man has bad boy written all over him and will cause you to swoon!

If you love the blend of romance and suspense, the perfectly mixed cocktail in Cutting Ties must not be missed. Grab it, enjoy, swoon, cry and gasp.

 5 STARS!

Meet Musing Maddie:

Musing Maddie is an avid reader, who mainly devours all things romance. She loves series, but only when the story warrants a few books rather than one. A strong, intelligent female with a bit of sass and wit is the preferred heroine in the books she reads, and some sizzle between the sheets is welcome too. Well, ok...more than welcome! Well, not just between the sheets is just fine too! She’s from Down Under, so her humor is on the crazy side. Captivating storylines, with well developed plot and yes, hot, hunky Heroes, is definitely a preference, but she loves it when the characters are damaged, and their story brings hope and restoration. Yes please to HEAs!
