[Kame's Review]: "Tempted Into Danger"

Tempted into Danger by Melissa Cutler
Publisher: Harlequin (June 4, 2013)
Series: ICE: Black Ops Defenders, 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Romantic Suspense)

When a simple mission to deliver the beautiful and brilliant Vanessa Crosby to a safe house goes horribly wrong, ICE agent Diego Santero’s life gets complicated. Keeping the anti-crime analyst safe from the notorious mercenaries after her program will put everything he’s worked for at risk.

Relentlessly hunted and not knowing whom to trust, Diego takes Vanessa on the run, deep into the heart of the deadly Panamanian rainforest. Vanessa reminds herself that she’s just another asset to the ruggedly handsome black ops agent…until their intense situation leads to a release of passion neither expected. But even if they make it out alive, how can they ever have a future together?

Kame's Review:

Just another day as a Black Ops special agent or at least that is what Diego thought. He was irritated that his assignment was nothing more than being a glorified chauffer but he was bound to make sure they planned for the unexpected and if along the way they could blow something up it would be a great day. His asset, Vanessa Crosby and math genius, created an algorithm to find bulk cash smuggling; something she did on her own to challenge herself, and now his bosses want to talk to her.  His mission was to bring her to a safe house for a meeting with the higher-ups and then bring her back home. How hard could that be?  Diego would again be reminded sometimes missions don’t go as planned when someone tries to kidnap Vanessa.

I thought Diego was a great character in the first chapter, but as we learned more about him and why he chose Black Ops I loved him more. Some military characters are gruff just on principle, but Diego knew if he let his guard down someone would get hurt.  He was astounded by Vanessa’s strength and so was I. She has a deep seated fear of being alone in the world. Under Diego’s watchful eye she blossomed in his confidence.

I am a self-proclaimed romantic suspense addict. However I had never read anything from Melissa Cutler, and had shied away from Harlequin’s romantic suspense books.  My favorite romantic suspense authors are Pamela Clare, Maya Banks, Lori Foster and Julie Ann Walker; how can Harlequin measure up.  Melissa Cutler is now on that list. This book has a TON of action. From car scenes, helicopter rides, a trek in a jungle and an explosion or two. I felt like I was driving down the road at 90 mph as I read this book, the action just kept on coming, and I barely could catch my breath! I loved every word, and it seemed each one was chosen for the most impact.  This book is part of a series; however each book is a standalone and many have a recurring character from a previous book. I will be checking out more of this series when books come available these are great characters and I want to read more of them making the world a safer place!

4 1/2 STARS!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
