[Pat's Review]: "Outside the Lines"

Outside the Lines by Kimberly Kincaid
Publisher: Curtis Brown Digital (July 28, 2013)
Series: Lines, 3
Genre: Contemporar Romance

As an ivy-league ER doctor who eats double shifts for breakfast (and lunch…and dinner), Blake Fisher has little appetite for anything other than work. Being on the staff at Brenstville Hospital means taking care of people, a need Blake understands all too well from losing his brother to cystic fibrosis eight years ago. When he’s asked to coordinate a carnival fundraiser for the cause, he jumps at the chance to help others with the disease…until it lands him side by side with the one woman he never thought he’d see again: his ex-fiancĂ©e.

Streetwise and rough around the edges, Jules Shaw is no stranger to earning a living through hard work. But when her job as the restaurant manager of Mac’s Diner puts her shoulder to really broad shoulder with Blake Fisher, she nearly balks. She’d rather dodge and deflect than admit the real reason she broke things off, but the catering contract for the carnival means big business for Mac’s, and feeding people is Jules’s lifeblood.

As Blake and Jules join reluctant forces, they quickly rediscover the spark between them. But the possibility of a future together hinges on coming clean about the past, with potentially devastating consequences. Can Blake and Jules overcome their drastically different backgrounds and learn to love again, or will they always be outside the lines?

Pat's Review:

Fair warning, have a snack before reading this novella!

This is the third novel in Ms. Kincaid's series set in Brentsville , New York. It centers around Mac's Diner where we met Serenity Gallagher owner and chef, and Jason Morgan ( Detective McHot-Hot) in Drawing the Line.  Julianna  (Jules)  Shaw is the restaurant manager and best friend to Serenity.

Serenity and Jules are working on Mac's infamous cinnamon rolls, when a freak accident occurs, and Jules ends up with a serious burn on her arm.  Forced by Serenity to go to the ER, she is treated by an exhausted Dr. finishing  his shift, who agrees to take one more patient.   Surprises all around when he enters and see's the patient....the woman he was engaged to eight years ago who left him a note before leaving town and disappearing.  Jules had left due to circumstances she felt were in Blake's best interests.  She had never stopped loving him,  and still carried the guilt of  running away.   Blake still carried the pain, and the frustration of not knowing why she left.

This is a love story, above all else. It's fun to catch up with the people in Brentsville, and even meet a few new ones.  Hunky  firefighter Aaron, Blake's cousin, hopefully has a story of his own. There is laughter, yummy food, and a very controlling mother!

I enjoyed this series very much and recommend it to romance readers, and "foodies."  It can be read as a stand alone,  but each of her novels  is a delightful read.

  4 STARS!
