Can love save them?

After her father commits a crime that shatters her family, eighteen-year-old Delaney Cross is tired of pretending everything is all right. Packing up her car, she sets out to find the people her father hurt. Her search leads her to places she’s never been—and into the arms of Adrian Westfall.

To the outside world, Adrian is a sexy, charming ladies’ man. But his playboy persona is just an act. Secretly his soul is tortured by a memory too painful to share. Only Delaney seems to see through his façade to the real man underneath. And for the first time in his life, Adrian feels he can begin to open up about his past.

Together, Adrian and Delaney share a passionate love they never expected to find. Yet both still harbor their own secrets. When the dark truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together—or tear them apart forever?

Musing Maddie's Review:

My hand latches on to the tiny shirt under my pillow...

~Adrian Westfall

If you have read Charade by talented author Nyrae Dawn, you will have met Adrian  - the lost boy, who smoked weed, drank and partied.  Façade is Adrian’s story. I loved Colt, and hadn’t expected to love Adrian, but this man, created by Dawn, drew me in from the first page.

Adrian had been running for four years. He'd felt trapped and alone for all of his life. Alone with the words that lived only inside his head, alone with the abuse he received at the hands of his father. His poems gave the reader a key to his soul - wonderfully poignant and rich in depth, but to hide, he partied hard, eager to deny the many words of guilt to take over in his head.

But Delaney, a young, scared woman who he wanted from the minute he saw, seemed to have the healing balm that filled the aching holes, even if he didn’t feel he deserved to have them filled.

Adrian of Delaney:

“She’s the fire in my veins, the breath in my lungs, and the glue trying to hold all my scars together.”

All Delaney wanted in life was to heal: to heal her mom, herself, her brother, and also Adrian. She carried an albatross of guilt for the sins her father had committed. She didn’t believe she deserved love and had been denied nurture by her overwhelmed and crushed mother.

Delaney of Adrian:

He's not perfect, but he's sexy and beautifully broken, inspiring and passionate and everything at the same time.

Dawn’s prose is strong, poetic and beautifully descriptive.

Adrian describing himself :

"...but my mind and heart are backpacking through the darkest corners of the world trying to get farther and farther away."

"Tiredness lives in my bones now, swims in the marrow, and I can't ever seem to get it out o
f my system."</

Written in first person, present tense and switching POV, allows the reader to become close to the wonderful, broken characters. I loved that Adrian gave Delaney the sweet nickname. I loved that Dawn’s characters were so believable; each having real, credible heartbreak, flaws and fissures. Each had a journey to peace, to live a healthier life without their carefully constructed walls: Adrian – the escapist—he needed to stop running, Delaney - the pacifier  she needed to stop relying on being protected.

Be prepared with tissues: Nyrae Dawn writes with passion, depth and intensity – Façade was raw and riveting and heart-wrenching. Her books are the type that I can read over and over again. Next is Masquerade, so I will be back…

Meet Musing Maddie:

Musing Maddie is an avid reader, who mainly devours all things romance. She loves series, but only when the story warrants a few books rather than one. A strong, intelligent female with a bit of sass and wit is the preferred heroine in the books she reads, and some sizzle between the sheets is welcome too. Well, ok...more than welcome! Well, not just between the sheets is just fine too! She’s from Down Under, so her humor is on the crazy side. Captivating storylines, with well developed plot and yes, hot, hunky Heroes, is definitely a preference, but she loves it when the characters are damaged, and their story brings hope and restoration. Yes please to HEAs!
