[Kame's Review]: "Fire Inside"

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley
Publisher: Forever (June 4, 2013)
Series: Chaos, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Erotica)

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love—no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club...

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his tastes. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him—in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Kame's Review:

Okay two things before I start this review. …

Have you purchased this book? – No? – go do it now – just understand that this is Kristen Ashley we are talking about and the book is going to be “the sh#$” so just stop procrastinating and get it.

Second – do you have any Bob Seger on your iPod?  - Go download some…just saying.

It has been seven years since Tyra’s best friend Lanie went into hiding with her fiancĂ© Elliot to avoid the Russian Mob. Seven years since the Mob found them, killed Elliot and shot Lanie leaving her for dead.  Seven years since the choices Lanie made caused her best friend to be stabbed repeatedly. During all this time Lanie has tried to just live, not feel, not love, but what if just for one night she could let herself feel again.

From other Chaos books (I include Motorcycle Man as that started us on our Chaos journey) we know Lanie has endured a lot of pain,  it’s hard to imagine there are other painful parts of her past that surface in this book that add to that pain. The only person who could help her heal this part of her is someone who has lived through pain, and for Lanie this was Hopper Kincaid. I will admit I was questioning the pairing of Lanie and Hop – he did have that Bebe incident in Motorcycle Man, but this man redeemed himself in my eyes in the early pages of the prologue! Hop has lived a full life – with many adventures before he ever met Tack. He is devoted to his children, and soon Lanie too.  Hop has his own level of sweet, sometimes evoking an “awwh” as I read.

“If you don’t know shit, you don’t feel shit. You breathe easy if you take a chance on me. What I do, I do. What the Club does, it does. You’ll learn to trust me, the brothers, Tack. I don’t use you as a shield. I am the shield….You take a chance on me, your biggest worry is your 7Up fizzing over.”

Lanie is trying to fight her inner monster, and this monster is BIG.  Her coping mechanism has always been her drama, an immediate intense response to situations.  Hop is not one to let the drama take over the situation and he is determined to get Lanie to rein in the drama and the monster. Their relationship is intense on many levels, their intimate scenes hot, and their dialog rang true for me and kept me turning the pages.

“I’m a fledgling old lady, Hopper Give me a break,” I returned
“You won’t be an old lady, Lanie, if you don’t give me one.”

I was pleased to catch up with favorite characters from the “Dream Man” and “Chaos” series. Tack is a strong presence in this book; you know he is there even when his character is not in the scene. He is still sharp as a tack and some of his dialog just made me chuckle. We first get the inclining of Lanie and Hop in Chaos #1 – Tabby and Shy’s book. Both love stories happen during the same time period.  In interesting part of this book is we are able to see events from a both couple’s perspective. I found Lanie’s take on the discovery of Shy and Tabby’s relationship touching.

“A girl, Hop, any girl who crushes on a boy like that, well…you aren’t a girl and thank God for me you aren’t. Still, that means you’ll never know. To have a crush like that and then have that boy fall in love with you, Hop, that’s a dream come true. Tabby lost so much, honey, she deserves to have a dream come true.”

I can’t pick a favorite Chaos book, that isn’t me be politically correct – it’s true.  Tyra and Tack are the relationship the rest of them look up to, and try to reach their level of trust, love and spark. Tabby and Shy are perfect examples of young love and a dream come true.  Lanie and Hop show how a great love can be your most important support when you deal with a painful past. With each book showing us a different path to a forever love how can I pick just one! Every Chaos book I read I devour quickly and then go back and reread to savor my favorite parts, sometimes highlighting full pages of favorite quotes and scenes. If given the opportunity I would preorder the next Chaos book right now! This book was better than I had imagined, and I had imagined it would be a 5 star!

5 STARS!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.

As always Kame great review! I am so with you about picking a favorite. Each book has a different Alpha Guy, who is showing his "soft" side. Just finished Breathe. I have to have one KA book going while I read others......

Awesome review KAME. The tip on Seger was appreciated, listening to him now. :) Love how KA uses music in her books and especially love that she is using Seger in this one. He is one of my absolute "go to" mood stabilizing, de-stressing singer/songwriters. Haven't found a KA book I disliked yet. Every character stays with me, and I can re-read them again and again.

Great review Kame! I have the Chaos series on my TBR list. I still have to read Tabby's book first before I can check out Lanie's. I must say the idea of Lanie & Hop is unexpected but again, I have some catching up to do. :)
