Genre: Contemporary Romance (with some PNR elements)
Veterinarian Lauren Townsend has good reason for hiding her psychic ability. Not only did her “freakishness” earn her pariah status in the small town where she grew up, it cost her her faith in love. When Lauren foresees a murder — through the killer’s eyes — he traces the victim to a sprawling ranch, never guessing what waits for her…
Cal Taggart’s rugged ranch life doesn’t need any more complications. But then beautiful Lauren enters his corral…with danger close behind. They can’t deny their intense attraction, but what begins as a fling with no strings becomes a fight for survival — and for true love.

Kame's Review:
It can be thought of as a gift or a curse. Lauren has visions of murders, and she has them before the murder happens, and they are from the murder’s perspective. This book opens with Lauren working at her veterinarian practice feeling the tell-tale signs of a vision coming. In this vision she sees a man’s gloved hands strangling a woman. It is not the first time she has had this vision and as her body is revolting at the sight she forces herself to pick out some details that will help her pinpoint where this crime will take place. She is able to catch a glimpse of a matchbook and take note of the scenery before she collapses. Armed with that information she makes arrangements for her practice to be covered, boards her dogs, buys a plane ticket and makes reservations at the Foothills guest ranch.
One of the first people she meets is Cal, the owner of the Foothills guest ranch. Cal is a former rodeo star who is trying desperately to ride out the bucking economy by turning his ranch into a place tourists can come and learn how to be a cowboy. It is not his first choice, but he feels it is the only way he can keep his ranch going. Due to past experience Lauren is leery of letting anyone know about her visions, but she feels an instant attraction to Cal, and tells the first of a few “tales” to get him to keep talking to her.
I loved the imagery and setting of this book. I have never been to Alberta Canada but if it is half as beautiful as Norah Wilson made it sound I definitely want to visit. And if there is a real Foothills guest ranch I would love to go there. A great setting is wonderful but it is the characters and plot that is the reason we read! Each character has a purpose, and their dialogue is very true to their character. Plots are plenty in this book, but nothing too farfetched and they all get nicely wrapped up at the end. I enjoyed Lauren and Cal’s emotional arc, and appreciated that this story happened over weeks, which aided in its plausibility. The conclusion was heartwarming, but as a true sign of a good book I wanted a little bit more – maybe an epilogue – however I can hope that this is the start of a new series and we get to visit with this wonderful setting and these engaging characters again. A very good read and I plan on this being the first of many Norah Wilson books I read.
4 STARS!

Meet Kame:
Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.

Great review! I shy away from the psychic visions and such stories but may check this one out. After all, I was pleasantly surprised with the two KGI series books that centered around heroines with special powers. Definitely sounds interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. It is rather light on the visions. She does have them and that is her motivation for going, but she doesn't see herself as a medium or crime stopping psychic. She wants to stop a crime if she can.
