WELCOME TO THE BLOG, JAYE! :)
Jaye Shields holds a degree in Anthropology from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in archaeology. Her previous claims to fame include being a bass player for a grunge band called the Hymens, being mistaken for Britney Spears while in Tokyo, and commercial model. She insists the commercial still counts even though her lines were cut.
When she's not flying the skies as a flight attendant for a major airline, she spends her time writing sensual paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Thanks to her grandmother, she's been reading romance novels since she was ten years old. Jaye sprinkles her love of history, mythology, and the occult into flaming hot reads. Character Description: Sparrow Reed
My name is Jaye and I’d like to introduce Sparrow Reed, the heroine of my latest release, Secrets of the Sky. She’s a young wiccan (that’s a fancy word for witch) with a back full of enchanted tattoos.
Sparrow walks into the room, flips her long, lightning blonde hair over her shoulder and grins. “That’s right, I can turn aviary at the drop of a hat. Thanks to my aunts for the enchantment when I was born. Hence the name, Sparrow.”
“As the author, I’ll just sit back and take the backseat to this interview. Take it away, doll!”
Sparrow grinned. “Thanks, Jaye. You do know how I love the limelight.”
“Oh yes, I’ve been to many of your karaoke knights. I almost got knocked off the stage trying to join you for Cowboy Casanova.”
Sparrow’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink. “Sorry. Karaoke night brings out the beast in me…Anyways, I’m happy to meet all the readers. I figure I should get them on my side early so they adore me when the book comes out. Hopefully everyone who read it already adores me.”
I shake my head. “I’m pretty sure your aunts stole the spotlight in that book.”
Sparrow smacked her forehead with a palm. “I love those ladies. Now you know why I don’t let anyone join me onstage at karaoke night. With characters like that in my family, it’s hard to stay in the spotlight.”
I grin, “But in Secrets of the Sky you have your moment.”
Sparrow swoons. “Thanks, Jaye. From the moment I laid eyes on Rowen in Secrets of the Fog, I was dying to get my hands on him. Oops, I mean…I was dying to get to know him.”
I blush this time. “And get to know him you did.”
“Too bad the whole torture and near-death thing put a bit of a kebosh on the romance.” Sparrow wrapped her hands around her mouth. “Oops. Spoiler alert. I shall say no more.”
“Thanks, Sparrow.” I shake my head. “Well, it was nice to get a chance to say hello to the readers. Hopefully you’ve seduced them into buying your book. I was hoping you’d turn on the charm, but you’re skills are a bit lacking today.” A playful shove sent me forward in my chair.
Thanks for letting me steal your time.
XOXO Jaye

Publisher: Crimson Romance (February 4, 2013)
Series: Immortals in Alameda Series, 2
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Sparrow Reed might look like an angel, but she’s a
witch with a back full of enchanted tattoos and she’s not afraid to use them.
When her best friend’s life is threatened by an evil Goddess, Sparrow joins an
epic battle against the demons sent to destroy her home. She never realized
that the night she almost died, her life would truly begin.
Rowen Aerion of the Knights of the Fog was sent to
the human realm to tip the balance in an unfair fight. But when he arrives on
Alcatraz Island to aid the mortal humans, he sees an angel fighting demons. But
she’s not an angel, she’s human. And according to a soothsayer, his love for
her will mean her demise.
Sparrow is thrust into a world she never imagined
existed, yet nothing thrills her like the handsome warrior who refuses her
seduction. When Rowen’s rejection sends Sparrow into the arms of a dangerous
rebel, Rowen must decide which is more dangerous, the oracle’s grim warning, or
forsaking his heart’s sole desire.

Secrets of the Sky by Jaye Shields
Excerpt
Rowen
appeared beside Sodor in the doorway. Flecks of blood dotted his face, but Sparrow
barely noticed. Instead, her gaze slid downward. His leather pants clung to his athletic
thighs, and his whole body was damp, as if it had been drenched by a wave. Beads of
water dotted his strong chest like a sky filled with stars.
Was
she staring?
What
kind of sick person stared at a ripped, glistening torso instead of a blood-splattered
neck and face?
A
horny one.
Melissandra
seemed to notice the sensual tension filling the room and Sparrow’s quick silence
at Rowen’s entrance. “Should we go above deck and help these knights clean up
a bit? Obviously there appears to be a blood and guts issue.”
Sparrow
blushed because she knew her skills with Wiccan were not at the same level as her
aunts. To be honest, she wished she could whip out a really cool spell and
impress Rowen
with her abilities. After all, who knew what kind of otherworldly women he was usually
surrounded by?
Morgana
took the cue from her sister and pushed past the knights before they could answer.
“We’ll have this place clean in a jiffy. Although if my dear niece’s
telekinesis skills
were up to par, her bedroom wouldn’t look like a disaster zone.”
Sparrow
blushed once more as everyone else headed above deck. Only Rowen stayed behind,
and she wondered if he’d sensed her discomfort.
“I’ve
seen your talents in action. You flew brilliantly.” He smiled. “Who needs telekinesis?”
She
laughed, comfortable around this stunning man for the first time. “Thanks.”
“Shall
we go above deck for some air?” Rowen gestured for Sparrow to go before him.
As
she walked past his form, Sparrow became all the more aware of how his body filled
the space. The scent of blood and a strange odor, probably demon guts, drifted through
the space, a reminder that the gentle voice belonged to a deadly warrior. She halted
next to him.
He
was so tall, Sparrow had to tilt her head up to gaze at his face. She smiled
lightly when his
aqua gaze recognized her close proximity. Her hands hovered just above his cheeks.
Sparrow gazed at him and began chanting in her head until a subtle glow emanated
from her hands. The light reached the skin of Rowen’s cheeks and buffed away the
flecks that had dried on his skin.
As
she finished chanting and the glow dissipated, Sparrow thought she saw a hungry look
pass through Rowen’s expression. Lust?
Sparrow
smiled and withdrew her hands. “See, I’m not completely useless.” Happy to pull
off the simple cleansing spell, Sparrow did her best to saunter seductively
down the
hall. After all, she didn’t want that to be the last time she received that
hungry look from her
warrior.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, Jaye (and Sparrow)! :) I have to say, I liked reading Sparrow and Rowen's story, though I think you're right, the aunts definitely stole the spotlight a time or two!
Oh, and this may sound odd, but I love your author picture--the dress, the setting, everything. Beautiful! :)
Okay, ladies, do you have any questions for
Jaye (or Sparrow)? If so, please
leave them in the comments and perhaps they'll
be answered!
Enjoy!

Thank you for hosting today!! Great post!!
ReplyDelete*Blush* I'm glad you like my author picture. That dress as a funny story actually. I lived in Alameda when I wrote that series, and everyday when I walked to the coffeeshop to write, I'd stroll past this dress boutique. That red dress was in the window, taunting me...but I knew I couldn't afford it. So for an entire year I walked past it. Then I got a couple book countracts. I told myself when I finished writing the third book, Secrets of the Sky, I'd buy that dress. So finish the story I did and I didn't waste any time celebrating with the purchase of my dream dress. The color is called Vixen Red <3
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! Hi Sparrow! Hi Jaye!
ReplyDeleteJaye, I have to agree with Danielle about your author pic. I love that dress and the picture, wow! I thought it was a pro picture since it's so beautiful. Your aunt has talent with the camera. Of course, she had a beautiful and very photogenic subject. Congrats to you and Sparrow on a wonderful story.
:D That's awesome, I'm glad that you not only accomplished your goal (writing and getting the books publisher) but also got a great dress out of it. We all need a reward to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
