[NOR Review]: "Nightingale Way"

Nightingale Way by Emily March
Publisher: Ballantine Books (August 28, 2012)
Series: Eternity Springs, 5
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Eternity Springs is a magical place where hearts come to heal—with a little help. As Emily March’s beloved series continues, a broken marriage finds new wings to fly.
Dark, brooding Jack Davenport hides his secrets well, never telling his wife about the dangers of his job, never sharing his thoughts or worries . . . never sharing himself. After tragedy strikes, their marriage shatters. Now a threat to Catherine Blackburn’s life brings her back into his—and gives them a second chance.

A reporter whose most recent investigation has ignited a national controversy and put her in harm’s way, Cat thinks she can handle herself. So when Jack grabs her off the street and sweeps her to his home above Eternity Springs, she’s furious.

In the warm sanctuary of the Eternity Springs community, Jack and Cat face the heartache that drove them apart. But can they find the courage to pick up the pieces of a shattered love?

My Review:

As much as I love fantasy novels, reading a gem of a contemporary like Nightingale Way reminds me why I really read books, romances in particular: to feel, to experience. This book didn't need shifters or magic to keep me interested. Instead a story was told to me, a story about love, second chances, life and healing. A story that touched me, a story I could relate to, though I've never been in any of the situations that Cat or Jack were in. A story that made me laugh, made me cry, and made my heart break. But most importantly, this story showed how love can truly heal—love not only from a lover, but friends, family and neighbors as well.

Nightingale Way is the first book I've read from Ms. March, and for that I am truly sorry. I loved her writing, her characters and the connection between all the residents of this small, quaint Colorado town. I will be putting March's books on my auto-buy list, and I'll be setting aside some time to read the previous books in this series, followed by a reread of Nightingale Way. I am anxious to learn more about Eternity Springs, especially regarding the four couples who have already been healed by this town. Not to mention the town's secret past... :)

If you are looking for a great romance, one of those rare books where you want to simply crawl inside the novel and never leave, this is the one for you! Nightingale Way is sweet, romantic, charming, and even provides more than a few laughs. Just be sure to have a few tissues around; this well-written tale provides the reader with a captivating emotional ride. Come join the fun in Eternity Springs, and let the magic of the community heal you, body and soul!

Sometimes love simply isn't enough to hold a marriage together. Or is it...?

Jack Davenport and Catherine Blackburn married for love. But after a few years life began to drive a stake through their marriage. Between his dangerous job, one that he is more dedicated to than anything else, and Catherine's issues with her mother (Jack's boss), thing's turned rough. But when Cat lost their first child, it pretty much sealed their fate—divorce.

Now, more than 5 years since they separated, Jack's job has brought them back together. After uncovering a local dog fighting ring, and reporting it on her infamous blog, Catherine's life is suddenly in danger. Hiding in Eternity Springs while the arsonist is found, Cat finds herself slowly coming to terms with the fact that she still has feelings for Jack. And it appears he does as well. Can they work through their past, work around his job and the death of their marriage and baby to reunite? Or will the past tear them apart—for good.

This was truly a wonderful contemporary, and I am only sorry that I didn't wait to enjoy the whole series rather than just jumping in! :)

Enjoy!

I picked up my first Emily March book earlier this month but just couldn't fit it in to my reading. I'll definitely be fixing that soon! Sounds like a wonderful series. The second chance at love storyline is one of my all time favorites :)
