[NetGalley Review]: "Untouched"

Untouched by Sara Humphreys
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca (April 3, 2012)
Series: The Amoveo Legend, 2
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Summary (Amazon.com):
SHE SHOULD BE SEEN, BUT NEVER TOUCHED...

Kerry Smithson's modeling career ensures that she will be admired from afar, which is essential since mere human touch sparks blinding pain and terrifying visions.

EVERY GOOD MODEL NEEDS A HEAVENLLY BODYGUARD...

Dante Coltari is hired to protect Kerry from those who know who she is—or more importantly what she is—and want her dead because of it. Nothing could have prepared him for the challenge of keeping her safe. But, strangely, his lightest touch brings her exquisite pleasure rather than pain, and Dante and Kerry have an otherwordly connection that might just pull them through.

My Review:

The Amoveo are shapeshifters, divided into various clans, with the ability to use other paranormal skills. For years, it was believed that they could only mate with others of their kind. But a recent discovery of hybrids, half-human/half-Amoveo, has lead to war—Purists (Amoveos who do not want the pureblood line diluted) against the hybrids and their mates. It's a deadly fight, and the question on everyone's mind is who will win?

Kerry has known all her life that she was different. Unable to stand the touch of other people (touch allows her to “see” a person's thoughts and memories) she has grown up isolated from the world—from basic human contact. Now, as a successful model, she still struggles to hide her differences and stay sane when the influx of everyone's emotions threaten to bring her to her knees. Until she meets Dante, whose touch brings only pleasure...

Dante has been searching for his mate for years, and when he finally finds her, he knows one thing: he's never letting her go. He knows he has to move slow—after all, she has been raised as a human, and has no knowledge of the Amoveo blood running through her veins. Nor the feeling of passion...

When a villain, known simply as the Punisher, begins to threaten Kerry, Dante knows that a Purist is at large again. Can he find out who the Punisher is—before it is too late?

Untouched had it's up and downs. At times, the pace was a bit slow, during others the story seemed too rushed. Yet I still liked the book, both for the shapeshifter storyline as well as the characters.

Kerry is the kind of heroine I'd like to see more of in this genre. She's not a skinny twig—she's a plus-sized model. I applaud her for what she's accomplished in her life and career, even with her real curves. I only wish I had been able to connect with her character more—there seemed to be something missing, something very important.

Dante was the perfect mate for Kerry—sexy and gentle, protective yet fun. I was hoping for more from character as well, but I still liked him. If he showed up on my doorstep, I wouldn't shut the door in his face! :)

The romance was pretty good—Dante was sweet to Kerry and yet very passionate as well. I had no complaints while reading these scenes. Dante definitely knows how to start a fire!

3 STARS! A quick, entertaining read, Untouched is the perfect story for any shifter fan. I look forward to reading more of Sara Humphrey's work (starting with the previous book in this series). Humphrey has done a great job of creating a shifter world for her readers to fall into and love—and I've already done both!
