Looking For: Erotic Romance (Erotica)

Erotica Week is almost at an end, and I've had a great time! I hope you have, too. But don't worry--it doesn't end until Sunday night (12:01am), so be sure to check out all the fun posts and enter the Erotica giveaway!

Also, international readers: the giveaway for you will be open until the end of this event (July 1st) but if you haven't entered yet, be sure to do so!

 What Should I Read? [Erotica]

I'm always on the look out for great erotic romances (erotica). They can be new, old, reprints, or upcoming--I'm not picky! :) It may take me a while to read them (ignore the TBR mountain in the corner, please!), but I like having a list to consult when I do need to go book shopping again!

I'm not a fan of M/M (or F/F). BUT, if you can convince me that there is a book in either category that I NEED to read, I'll listen--I'm willing to try once!

Also, I'm not into anything too kinky. I mean, I don't want a story about a girl and her step-dad. No---just no. On many levels. But if that's your thing--more power to ya! :)

Otherwise, I'm pretty much open to anything. At least once. :)

See what else is going on for Erotica Week!

Enjoy!

Guest Post w/ Lily Harlem

Prepare to get wild! It's Erotica Week here at TBQ's Book Palace as part of my 4 year blogoversary celebration!  Plus, did I mention there's a giveaway involved? :)

Today I'd like to welcome Lily to the blog--she writes erotica with sexy men and sports galore! Now, I haven't read any of her work yet, but from what I've seen, I think she's definitely an author to watch! :)
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I'm a multi-published, award winning author of contemporary erotic romance. I live in the UK with the lovely Mr. Harlem and write for several publishing houses including Ellora’s Cave, Xcite and Total-E-Bound. I also feature in numerous UK and US anthologies, one of which all proceeds are donated to charity.

My books are a mixture of full length novels and short stories, some are one offs, some are sequels or part of a series (all can be enjoyed as stand alone reads). What they each have in common are colourful characters travelling on everyone’s favourite journey — falling in love. If the story isn’t deliciously romantic and down and dirty sexy, it won’t be written, at least not by me. So with the bedroom door left well and truly open you are warned to hang on for a steamy, sensual ride - or rides as the case might be!

Sexy Sportsmen

Hi, and thanks so much for inviting me over today! It’s great to be here. If we haven’t met before here is a little about me…

My books are sexy, steamy, romantic and sweet all at the same time and I definitely don’t consider three a crowd when it comes to bedroom action!!
I particularly enjoy writing about sporting hunks and have a series at Ellora’s Cave called Hot Ice all about those bad boys of hockey!

It is a combination of things about professional athletes that hit the spot for me. Their toned, taut bodies of course and the way they hold themselves and go for what they want at full pelt, no holds barred. But also that determined glint in their eye, the will to succeed, be the best of the best, make that goal, shot, or point. Oh, I’m getting goose bumps, those guys are just so delicious. And if they’re a bit grumpy and brooding, at odds with their fame and modest about their talent, well I am afraid that only adds to the appeal for me and I am a puddle of lust on the floor!!

Here are a few sporty types who make me tingle…
Soccer babes, anyone?

David James
Christiano Ronaldo

Or maybe you prefer hockey hunks?

Mike Fisher
Carey Price

Or maybe it's David that gets you.. Ah, David!

David Beckham

My latest novel out at Amazon is Scored. Scored is a sexy sport story about the England football team (soccer team to you US guys!). With so many gorgeous guys to choose from I decided to write a smokin’ hot tale that included their antics off the pitch as well as on it. Watch out Beckham, Lewis Tate might just tip the balance here in the hotness stakes not to mention sheer determination when he decides there is something, or someone, he wants!!

Lily:
What's the sexiest sport and who is your favourite sporting hunk?

Scored by Lily Harlem
Publisher: Lily Harlem (May 22, 2012)
Genre: Erotica Romance

Okay, so I eat, sleep and breathe football and reporting the beautiful game is my dream career. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have time for a major crush on the England captain, Lewis Tate. The bloke is sex on legs, hot with a capital H. Add in his awe-inspiring talent, his brooding good looks and what’s not to lust after?

So my excitement is sky-high as I set off with the official press team to cover England’s battle for the European Cup. But when a series of unfortunate, or as it turns out fortunate events, attracts Tate’s attention my way, who am I to say no?

Add in a misogynistic manager, an over-zealous colleague, two blue silk ties and some incredible ball-handling skills and it becomes clear the road to victory, for me, will be an intensely erotic journey. Determined to savor every moment, I hang onto my sanity as best I can while living the fantasy and wondering if it can ever become reality. Because once Lewis Tate has taken me to heaven and back, its clear no one else will ever compare.

Excerpt:
I glanced at the elevator screen. Damn, I was going down, to the spa instead of up. Oh well. I’d had to get out of the lobby before Medusa-Fellows solidified me anyway.
The doors opened and the chlorinated air from the pool seeped in. But that barely registered in my mind, because standing in red trunks with a white towel slung around his neck was Lewis. His wet hair was mussed up and his skin dewy and damp. Fuck, the guy just got more gorgeous every time I saw him. It wasn’t a case of getting used to his stunning looks, they just bowled me over anew.
“Hello, Nicky,” he said, stepping in next to me.
“Hi.” Seriously, how could he act so cool? How could I be expected to act cool when he looked like every dirty dream and carnal fantasy rolled into one?
The doors slid shut and I pressed the button for level three. “I presume you’re going to your room and not to the lobby dressed like that?”
“Yep.”
I glanced up at him. He was gnawing at the inside of his cheek. His shoulders were raised and tense and he was staring straight at me with a sharp glint in his eye.
“Great game, congratulations.”
“Thank you.” His words were short and clipped.
“What?” I asked, feeling unaccountably off-kilter. Was he angry with me? What had I done? I hadn’t told anyone he’d been in my room for tea. I hadn’t even told anyone we’d ever spoken outside of the press conferences.
“You told me…” he said, “that…”
“What?” Okay, now I was really nervous. His eyes were thin slits; I could only just make out that perfect shade of deep-ocean blue through his lashes. “What did I tell you?”
“That you weren’t seeing anyone.”
“I’m not.”
He stepped toward me, big and brooding. His sudden indomitable expression was more than a little disturbing.
I backed up and my shoulders hit the cool mirrored wall.
He followed, penning me in. He was all acres of perfect flesh, toned muscles and steely determination. My stomach somersaulted, my heart rate rocketed and I gripped the brass bar that lined the elevator. I’d never felt so physically small in my life.
“So who was the guy who thought it was okay to wrap his arms around you at the press conference?”
“That was just Phil.” My voice was a little squeaky, but I wasn’t complaining, I was surprised I could even speak. Why the hell would Phil matter to Lewis?
“Just Phil?”
I nodded. “Yes, just Phil.” I could smell Lewis now, a combination of chlorine, soap and raw maleness. As he spoke his sweet breath breezed warm onto my cheek and sent a sizzle of awareness shooting down my middle, tickling my nipples and creating a buzz in my clitoris. This man did seriously dangerous things to my body, like letting it think it was in charge of my brain.
“So he’s not your boyfriend?”
“No, definitely not. Phil is a work colleague who gets a bit flirty now and then. But I hardly know him really.”
I wasn’t sure if I’d said the right thing because a small muscle flexed and un-flexed in Lewis’ cheek and his nostrils flared.
“Really, there’s nothing between us,” I said. “I’m free as a bird, no one to answer to, no one to—”
“Stop talking.” He glanced at the elevator dashboard then turned his attention back to me.
“Why.”
“Because I want to test a theory.” He nipped my chin between his thumb and index finger, tilted my head and dropped his face until his lips were just a hair’s-breadth from mine.
“What theory would that be?” I whispered, wondering if my knees would continue to hold me up for more than another few seconds. Damn, he was so close. I felt completely consumed by him.
“The kiss-and-tell theory.”
“Oh, well I—”
My words were cut short as his mouth connected with mine. Smooth, pliant lips and a softly probing tongue taking possession, owning and controlling.
A small whimper mewed up from my throat. Fuck. Lewis Tate was kissing me. And not only that he was one hell of a kisser. Gentle but firm, and he tasted delicious; fresh and sexy and perhaps a tang of mint.
I opened up and let him in. Searched for his tongue with mine and allowed him to set the pace and depth. Surely I was in the middle of a fantastic dream. How had I got so lucky to have such an incredible man kissing me?
He kept a tight hold of my chin as he pulled away. “You’re so sweet,” he murmured, his downcast gaze searching my face. “So please don’t prove my instincts wrong.”
“What instincts?” I was struggling to catch my breath, control the tremble in my belly.
There was a sudden ping, the elevator jolted to a stop, and the doors slid open.
Lewis backed up rapidly, gripped the ends of the towel that was still around his neck, and squared his stance.
A waiter holding an ice bucket stared in at us.
“Good evening,” Lewis said, stepping past him.
I followed, tightening my purse over my shoulder and avoiding the waiter’s curious stare. Surely he hadn’t seen Lewis pressing me against the wall and kissing me into oblivion. He’d stepped away by the time the doors had slid open.
Hadn’t he?

I hope that excerpt wet your appetite for the fit guys who grace the pitch and if you do read SCORED be sure to let me know what you think. Interview with Cassidy Kingston + Giveaway [INT]!

Prepare to get wild! It's Erotica Week here at TBQ's Book Palace as part of my 4 year blogoversary celebration!  Plus, did I mention there's a giveaway involved? :)

Today I'd like to welcome Cassidy to the blog--she's a writer of hot erotica novels! Now, I haven't read any of her work yet, but from what I've seen, I think she's definitely an author to watch! :)
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I am a wife, mother, writer and avid reader. I live in Alabama where it is too hot, too humid and there are too many bugs. I have multiple degrees in subjects that have nothing to do with writing.

Where to Find Cassidy:
 WebsiteFacebook | Twitter | GoodReads

The_Book_Queen: Hi Cassidy! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Cassidy: Well I am married and have three kids. We live in Alabama. I have degrees in Animal and Ecological Biology and Developmental Psychology…so naturally I write erotic romance J I have always loved to read so being a writer started as a hobby then just progressed. I also do a lot of my writing during my kids sporting events. And I suck at names…so if anyone has any name suggestions for me by all means send them my way.

TBQ: Your newest release, Scent of Desire came out a few months ago. Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?
C: It is the 2nd in a series of 5 short stories based on the 5 senses. It is about a scent demon, Aiden, who tracks people by their scent. He is hired to find a run away young woman who is being accused of murder. Everyone who reads this story gets mad at me because they fall in love with Aiden and want it to be longer than a short story. Thankfully I have a WIP about another scent demon in the works.

TBQ: Are there other genres you would like to write about?
C: I actually write YA paranormal thrillers under my real name J I would love to write horror because that was my first love, but sadly I can’t writer it to save my life.

TBQ: I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. :) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors?
C: I love “The Girl who loved Tom Gordon” By Stephen King. It is not one of his most popular books and is not an out right horror novel but it is so well written and really pulled me in. I would have to say that he is my favorite author. I also love The Hallows by Kim Harrison, The southern vampire books by Charlaine Harris and The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay. As for erotic romance I LOVE Melissa Schroeder. Her Harmless series is awesome.

TBQ: Have you ever fallen for a hero, either from one of your books or from another author? If so, who is he and what drew you to him?
C: I will admit I am totally in love with Eric Northman. I have told my husband many times I would leave him for Eric. I also love my character Aiden from Scent of Desire.

Great cover--and it was
revealed just in time for this post! :)
TBQ: What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?
C: My third short story in the series, Touch of Pleasure, will be out Mid August. The last two, Vision of Ecstasy and Sounds of Passion, do not have release dates yet. I have a contemporary romance WIP and another scent demon novel WIP. I also have a novella on submission that is the first in a series, so hopefully it will be out soon. J

Blogoversary Giveaway: Four Weeks, Four Genres! (Week 4)

Prepare to get wild! It's Erotica Week here at TBQ's Book Palace as part of my 4 year blogoversary celebration!

This post kicks off the rest of the week's events. Plus, did I mention there's a giveaway involved? :) Read on!

Oh, and for all my international readers--check out this post for your chance to win during my blogoversary. :)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

Erotica--the mere word sends some readers running, others cringing. Why? Well, one of two reasons. 1) They don't know what the genre is really about (hint, the answer is not, surprisingly, sex) or 2) They've had a bad experience with an "erotica" novel in the past.

For the longest time, I wouldn't touch an erotica novel. It wasn't necessarily the idea of tons of hot, explicit sex that turned me away, but rather a few bad examples that I saw at the time. I don't recall author names or titles, but they were ones I found on Amazon while searching through the erotica page.

Let me tell ya, if you are ever bored out of your mind and you need something to take your mind away, search through erotica on Amazon--they have some freaky ones on there! I'd never read any of them, but it's comical and yet scary-weird to see some of the titles and covers that these books get.

Anyway, it wasn't until I started talking to other readers that I started to experiment (hehe) in erotica novels. At first, the novels I read were more of what some would term as "really sexy romances" rather than erotica.

But that brings up the question of "What makes a book 'erotica' and not a 'steamy romance' instead?", and I'm not going to go there--not today at least, as that is a whole post by itself! :)

Soon, I was reading a few of the dirtier books out there. ;)

But I have to say, I only read certain erotica novels. Just like with any other book, if it has flaws, if it's not well written, if something is brought up in the book that I personally cannot stand, I won't read it. Sometimes, even in erotica, I can't stand seeing nothing but sex, with no storyline, no character development, nothing. When I see a book that is like that, I see "porno", not erotica. Maybe that's just me, though...

Finding a good erotica novel is, perhaps, a bit harder than finding a good historical, but there are tons of books out there to choose from. One just has to be willing to look, to ask their friends and fellow readers, to take a risk on a book, even if it's just once. If you don't know what you like (or don't like) how can you expect to find a good book in this deeply pleasurable genre? ;)

Earlier this year I read a book for NOR. It was one that I requested, and I don't know what made me decide to read it--the cover or the summary. Both are great! :)

The book in question? Spliced by Robin Leigh Miller.

As soon as I started reading it, I never looked back. I think I put the book down only a few times, and then only because I *had* to. I was hooked! The story was great, the emotions were real, the lovin' was oh-so-sexy! I was crying, I was panting, I was all over the place--and loving every minute of it!

By the end, I was literally worn out, but in a good way. I had to sit for a while, think about what I had just read. It took me more than a week to write that review, and I still don't think it did the book justice!

I even contacted Robin after my review went up, asking if she'd be a guest here on the blog. Robin is great, very kind, and she agreed to do not only an interview but a guest post as well. Thanks again! :)

I loved this book, and while I haven't yet done a re-read, I know I will!

Picking a prize for erotica week was hard--I haven't read that many, to be honest, and some of the ones I have read and loved have been read by many already. I wanted to showcase one that was, perhaps, a bit less well known, and this one seemed like the perfect choice. I could have done one of Lora Leigh's many books, or Emma Holly's, or...well, you get the point.

Instead, I went with a novel that I really loved, and one that I hope you will, too! :) Happy Reading!

Oh, one more thing: Erotica is obviously not for everyone, and that's okay. But if you've been interested in trying it, well, I don't think you could go wrong by starting with this book.

And I don't think I need to say it, but I will: Only if you are over 18. :) Every post this week will be very sexy, so if you are under 18, leave now please!

Here's my candidate for the week:

Instant Gratification by Jill Shalvis
Publisher: Kensington (November 6, 2012) [Reprint]
Series: Wilder, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

In Instant Attraction, Jill Shalvis introduced Cameron, Stone, and T.J.--the sexy, daredevil brothers who run Wilder Adventures. And for Stone Wilder, the thrill of a lifetime is about to arrive in a surprising package. . .

The Doctor Is In Deep

Wishful, California, is 3000 miles from Dr. Emma Sinclair's last job in a New York City ER. It may as well be another galaxy. Here, running her father's clinic for a summer, Emma treats bee stings, stomach flu, and the occasional pet cat. Plus, she has to contend with patients like Stone Wilder: gorgeous, laid-back, and irritating beyond belief. The man laughs at her. A lot. And Emma loathes him. All except that tiny part of her that wants to throw him on her examining table and break every doctor-patient rule in the book. . .

When Stone tries to help Emma learn to loosen up a bit, he pictures white-water rafting or scenic mountain hikes. Not a mind-blowing affair that shakes them both to the core. Emma's sure she has no place in a town like Wishful, but Stone knows different. Emma belongs here--in this town, in his life. And convincing this strong-minded, stubborn, sexy woman of that fact will be a challenge no Wilder man could resist. . .

Why?
The cover seems simple, right? Well, that's one of the things I love most about this one. It's not crowded, it's not too busy...

Plus, it's sweet, and I don't mean that in a "sugar-coated" kind of way. The simple romantic embrace/kiss, when done right, can do wonders for a book cover. :)

I've never read any of Jill Shalvis' novels, but they are all on my list. And although this is a reprint, I personally like this cover a little better than the old one (see here).

What about you? Do you like the simple covers like this? Or do you prefer the older cover for Instant Gratification?
